So I haven’t been running for about 6 months now since I have been dealing with some health issues. At first, I was experiencing dry eyes and dry mouth. It was controlled with eye drops and constant hydration but it got to the point that my joints started getting achy and stiff too. plus, I have an ongoing pain in my diaphragm and feeling like I can’t catch my breathe. I went to my doctor and got referred to specialists. First, I got diagnosed with Sjögren’s syndrome, query if it is primary or secondary to Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Then, I got diagnosed with hiatus hernia. My specialists told me to lessen running for a while but since then I was too scared that my condition will get worst, I just omit doing anything that involve cardio. I have been doing hot yoga once and awhile and watching what I’m eating (sometimes). As a result, I lost weight but also lost tone. Don’t be fooled, I may be skinny but I’m not healthy! So last Thursday was my follow up appointment with my GI specialist, good news is I don’t need surgery and I can get back to running. Bad news, I’m not to do any long distance running since it can worsen the placement of hernia plus if this worsen I need to redo all my tests in 6 months.
Anyway, I may have to do 10k for the Calgary Marathon this year instead of the full marathon I planned before but I’m just so happy to be able to run again.
